Beeville (KIII news) — The Beeville Police Department is asking city leaders Monday for the authority to hire some temporary full-time police officers after they currently had eight vacancies in their patrol division.
Under state law, City Council and Beeville police can fill the jobs with temporary certified officers.
"This is merely assistance to the officers in the field trying to keep up with calls for service, and my effort is to be able to provide them a little bit of assistance if the officers can be found," Chief Robert Bridge said.
The Beeville City Council is expected to approve the request by the police department.
Starting pay for a Beeville police officer is a little over $17 an hour.
