Beeville police make significant meth bust

According to police, this is not the first time they have raided the spot, but they feel it might be the last time.

Beeville (KIII news) — Beeville police believe they have taken a significant meth dealer off the streets after raiding a home Tuesday night on West Fannin Street.

"All of a sudden you hear a boom late in the afternoon and you come out here and say what's going on," Beeville resident Angie Galle said.

Galle has lived in the 1000 block of West Fannin Street for 40 years.

Beeville police and the Sheriff's department along with DPS and Rockport police raided the home of 36-year-old Joseph Martinez.

Martinez had been arrested hours before on a charge of manufacturing a controlled substance.

"The detectives have been working at this location for several weeks attempting to obtain enough information to establish probable cause for a search warrant," said Beeville police chief Robert Bridge.

25-year-old Desiree Tapia was inside the home at the time of the raid.

Tapia is behind bars on a total of $110,000 in bonds.

Along with Tapia, officers said they found 121 grams of crystal meth, $1,800 in cash and many weapons including what appeared to be a silencer.

"We will contact the alcohol tobacco and firearms bureau to see if this qualifies as a silencer and possibly pursue federal charges," Bridge said.

The house happens to be right across the street from a city park and an elementary school.

"It is immediately across the street from a park that would qualify for a drug-free zone that is correct," Bridge said.

According to police, this is not the first time they have raided the spot, but they feel it might be the last time.

Beeville police said the house on West Fannin had been searched before and this time they're going to seize it under state law.

Martinez was jailed on the drug charges, his bond is $140,000, and officials expect to charge him with additional federal charges in the next few days.
