CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — There's a warning out for homeowners who may be trying to find a way to lower their electricity bills this summer -- some energy companies are using door-to-door salespeople who may be making a lot of promises, but the Better Business Bureau said the buyer should definitely beware.
Pete Leal knows what it's like to answer the door and be told by a sales person they have a deal he just can't get anywhere else. He said most of the time he says "no thanks."
While most salespeople mean well, there is a slight possibility that some could be scammers.
Jason Meza with the Better Business Bureau said if someone approaches your doorstep with a deal, press the pause button and ask to see their business license. Also, to help maintain your security, never let the salesperson into your home.
Reliant Energy uses vetted door-to-door sales agents and said staying at the doorstep is their protocol.
Both the Better Business Bureau and Reliant Energy said if you do not feel comfortable, do not go through with the transaction. Call the company directly and do your research.
