CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Construction on the new Bob Hall Pier is set to begin soon as Nueces County Commissioner Brent Chesney shared that the court has ordered an engineering firm to have the work completed by March 1st.
The old pier was totaled by Hurricane Hanna in July 2020 and was eventually demolished in September 2022.
Commissioner Chesney said the March 1st deadline came after the engineering company wanted to come back in April or May with its design 100 percent complete.
The court said no because it's already almost been four years since the pier was destroyed by Hurricane Hanna.
"We have told them that we want everything ready to go by March 1st because we want this thing to go out for bid this year and we want to build it start building it this year," Chesney said. "That's the anticipation of the court, that's the push we've had."
The new pier cost $27 million.
