Special bonus with Buc Days tickets this year

It's a 'stay-all-day' experience according to Buc Days President Johnny Philipello.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As we get closer to this year's big Buc Days celebration, we're working to bring you everything you need to know including how a new plan for Buc Days tickets can help you entertain the entire family.

This year a new program is allowing visitors who buy Buc Day tickets to spend the day in the SEA District.

Since the carnival cuts off pedestrian traffic from the Art Museum of South Texas and the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, for the run of Buc Days a ticket now gets you into all of them.

"We get to be part of the festivities, we are part of the actual festival, part of the grounds of the festival so people are going to have a lot more to do, a lot more to see, so we're just super excited to offer that this year," said Paulina Mansceau with the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History.

Buccaneer Commission president and CEO Johnny Philipello explained as the carnival has spread to a bigger area, they wanted to offer more to those families who have been cut off from easy access to both museums.

"As Buc Days has grown we've taken up a bigger and bigger footprint and, unintentionally, it's been to the detriment of the museums for that 11 days," Philipello said. "So, last year we started the conversation and figured out a way that we could include them in our footprint and now we're at, for the price of admission, you can take in all things Buc Days but also check out the Science and History Museum and the Art Museum."

Featured exhibits at both museums this month include the 'King Ranch in Art,' at the Art Museum and 'The History of Vaqueros,' at the Science and History Museum.

"It's a stunning collection by Bill Whitley," Mansceau said. "He went to northern Mexico to photograph the daily life of these vaqueros and a way of life really that exists only in these photographs. It's a fading era and it's captured stunningly and we have the opportunity to display it this year."

There are many other exhibits to see at both museums and Philipello said it's a solid value.

"It's really a come, stay-all-day experience that we're offering this year," he said.

There's also a special second Saturday with outdoor art activities like Raku firing, and unique family-friendly indoor art activities.
