CCPD: Caleb Harris investigation still active despite 'undetermined' autopsy

"We potentially exhausted every potential lead that we could think of," CCPD Assistant Chief Todd Green said.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While the missing persons case for Caleb Harris has been closed, Corpus Christi Police Assistant Police Chief Todd Green said the investigation into his death is still active.

Green said that police essentially had to work backwards in their investigation. Normally, in more traditional cases police have blood, bullet casings or even a body to help establish evidence, which is why they ruled out foul play.

"It wasn't just us, we had help from the FBI, we had help from the rangers, we had help from the U.S. Marshalls. Initially, the Coast Guards helped us with this search," he said.

Green said the results of the autopsy report showed that there were no serious injuries to Harris' body.

"No major broken bones, fractures; there were some damages to parts of the body," he said.

But that doesn't stop people like former Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi student Jordan Smith from wanting answers.

"I think everybody wants to know what happened and I know I'm still curious," Smith said. "If anything bad did happen then whoever needs to be brought up, gets brought up."

Current TAMU-CC student Dylan Hill said that he has seen light in this dark situation when passing by the memorial set up for Harris. He said that it warms him, knowing there are people honoring his memory.

"They set it up and then right back after, I came back an hour later and saw more people were building it and I was like 'man it's cool to see how one person can bring a community together in such a tragic time,' " Hill said.

If you have any information regarding the investigation, you are encouraged to call CCPD's non-emergency number at (361) 886-2600.
