Baffin Bay enjoys the calm before Beryl

Residents are not panicking, but on Friday some were starting to worry.

KLEBERG COUNTY, Texas — Along Baffin Bay on Friday, no homes in the area or in Loyola Beach were boarded up. 3NEWS also didn’t find a whole lot of people who were actually worried about the threat Hurricane Beryl poses to the area and their property. However, some residents were starting to become a bit nervous when they saw that the hurricane was set to roar through the Coastal Bend.

Thomas Garcia and Nick Muckley were visiting Baffin Bay from San Antonio to do some wade fishing then leave for home on Sunday.

"Hopefully this storm that’s coming in hopefully it will turn up the water, you know push in some good water," Garcia said. "Right now, we’re going to try and hit this spot right here and get some trout and red.”

The Baffin Bay Seafood Restaurant was open for business on Friday. Owner Craig Alexander welcomed lunchtime guests Luis Hernandez and his family from Edinburg.

Each had their own plans on dealing with Hurricane Beryl.

"We’re probably going to board up if it keeps on the track that it’s at, but as of right now we’re just kind of playing it by ear," Alexander said.

"We’ll probably be heading back home as soon as possible, and of course try to stay ready, be ready for any potential outages and stuff like that and be ready to ride it out," Hernandez said.

A fuel truck showed up to the country store to fill up the underground gasoline tanks so that everyone can get gassed up, just in case.
