CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Fire Department responded to a call just after 10 a.m. for a possible fire on the pool deck of the Holiday Inn off N Shoreline Blvd.
3NEWS learned that the fire started in one of the flower planters, but the source is still under investigation.
There have been no injuries reported as guests at the hotel were able to safely move out of the way to allow firefighters to extinguish the fire.
However, with cold temperatures moving into the Coastal Bend, CCFD is warning residents that a fire can still occur in homes, especially when using a space heater.
"Just because its drizzly outside, doesn't mean that fires can't happen and in fact even if there were electricity involved that's where we'll see a lot of problems," said CCFD Cpt. Jeff Durrwachter.
With residents turning on their heaters for the first time, CCFD recommends using an efficient heater. If you smell smoke coming from your heater, evacuate from the home quickly and call the fire department immediately to help prevent a potential fire tragedy.
