CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Take a break from the holiday rush and enjoy a unique take on all your favorite Christmas carols with the global tradition, Tuba Christmas.
Here in town, the concert will take place at noon Monday, Dec. 18th in the Plains Capital Bank lobby and is free to the public. Nearly 100 tuba, euphonium, baritone, and sousaphone players will present everyone’s favorite Christmas tunes.
The director of bands at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Brian Shelton, shared the community's love for the tradition.
"It's amazing, it's interesting too," he said. "It's sort of an unusual ensemble and yet you'll get a big crowd. It's not just the players, it's the community that comes out for this."
Area low brass players interested in participating in this year’s Tuba Christmas can attend the rehearsal from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Dec. 18 in the Performing Arts Center at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Musicians must provide their own stands for the rehearsal and performance.
Free parking will be available at the university, while street parking is available at the Great Plains Capital Bank Building.
Don't forget to pick up your special 50th anniversary Tuba Christmas merch, available for purchase Monday.
