CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Chipping in for a good cause!
That's the message behind an upcoming golf tournament benefiting the ChatWork Civic Club in Portland.
Laura Miller joined us live on First Edition to talk about how the group, which first came together 103 years ago, continues to give back to community projects and support their public library.
The ChatWork Civic Club was founded after the Portland community was rocked by two hurricanes in 1921. Miller said the group's charitable nature was born out of a desire to revitalize the city.
"It was a time that women wanted to get together to boost morale, get together for fellowship and do something great for the community."
"We send out information to different community organizations and ask them to request certain things and then after the tournament we will know how much money we will have to send out."
Miller says that a group is close to reaching their fundraising goal this year but invites the community to come out and support on April 6.
The event will begin at noon at the North Shore Country Club.
