CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The City of Corpus Christi celebrated the completion of the $5 million Rodd Field expansion project on Thursday.
Funds from Bond 2022 helped extend Rodd Field south of Yorktown Boulevard to Alder Drive as well as provide another outlet from Rancho Vista.
An elementary school is on the way in the area and a new middle school is also in the works.
Assistant City Manager Neiman Young said the project provides a much needed access point to all the homes and businesses located in this ever growing area.
"We really got to ensure we keep ahead of all that residential growth," Young said. "So what we're really focusing on is increasing the road capacity on the major corridors in District 5 which includes Rodd Field road into Yorktown project. We decided that we are going to move forward with Rodd Field project because that's gonna provide the secondary access. Now that the secondary access is open we'll start on the Yorktown corridor."
There's a lot of other great things coming to the Southside like the new aquatic center at Bill Whitt Park, the addition to the new police training academy at Del Mar's Oso Creek campus and a brand new library coming to this area.
