Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The Ohio developer who plans to spend $50 million remodeling the old Nueces County Courthouse got the green light from City Council Tuesday to begin the project.
The developer plans to turn the old courthouse into a 160-room luxury hotel.
The five-year project will coincide with the demolition of the old Harbor Bridge. City Council agreed Tuesday to giving the company $3 million in rebates once the project is complete and $1 million in tax abatements.
Mike Pusley, who is on the Courthouse Redevelopment Board, said the company is ready to pay over $1 million in back taxes.
The developer said they will be sending an architectural team to the courthouse next week and they hope to begin work by the end of the year.
