City offering lifeguard training courses this month

The lifeguard certification training is available across two different age groups: 11-14 and 15 and up.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Parks and Rec are throwing out their buoy to anyone interested in keeping our waters safe.

They're offering two classes for different age groups at the natatorium all month long.

The lifeguard certification training is available for those 15 and up and junior lifeguard training for ages 11 to 14.

Lifeguard Certification Training

  • Eligible: Ages 15+
  • Fee: $200/person
  • Online registration is open now and will close on March 7, 2024.
  • Program Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, March 11, 13, & 15, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Prerequisites: Participants must complete a 300-yard swim, 100-yard front crawl, 100-yard breaststroke, and 100 yards of breaststroke and front crawl.

Junior Lifeguard Training

  • Eligible: Ages 11 to 14
  • Fee: $75/person
  • Online registration is open now and will close on March 8, 2024.
  • Program Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, March 11, 13, & 15, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
  • Prerequisites: None
  • Learn leadership and rescue techniques and have fun in our American Red Cross Junior Lifeguard class. Students will be swimming and learning basic lifeguard techniques. This course will not certify participants to be lifeguards.
