Corpus Christi (KIII News) — The City of Corpus Christi is reminding residents how to avoid plugging up their drains when cooking for the holidays.
The most common cooking items that clog drains are meats, lard, shortening, sauces, gravy, oil, and dairy products.
During an event Thursday morning, representatives with the City demonstrated how to properly dispose of fats, oils, and grease.
"It could be costly for the homeowner because they're going to have to get a plumber. It could be costly for the City because we have to go unstop the lines," Wastewater Plant Manager Gerald Garcia said.
According to Garcia, residents should not flush the waste because it could stop up toilets and City sewer lines. Residents can use old coffee cans or grease traps to help dispose of fats, oils, and grease.
