Jury finds Judge Guy Williams not guilt on first count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon

Yesterday jurors found Williams not guilty on the first count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against Brooke Stewart.

UPDATE:

Closing arguments in the trial of suspended District Judge Guy Williams got underway Friday morning, after which a jury of his peers began deliberations to decide his fate.

Williams was accused of threatening a couple with a gun during a road rage incident last year. Yesterday jurors found Williams not guilty on the first count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against Brooke Stewart.

However, on the second count the Jury became deadlocked around 5 p.m. after failing to come to a unanimous verdict causing a mistrial.

According to prosecutors its now up to the attorney generals office to determine if Williams will be retried for aggravated assault against the passenger in that incident, Sarah Stewart.

Jury selection for the trial was held Monday and the trial began Tuesday with testimony from the victims and police. Both the prosecution and defense rested their cases Thursday, and closing arguments were pushed back to Friday morning.
