CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi City Council agreed with Nueces County Commissioners on Tuesday to oppose adding more seats to the Port Commission.
The current port board has three members appointed by Nueces County Commissioners, three by the City Council, and one by San Patricio County Commissioners.
San Patricio County is asking for additional representation citing all the new port-related industry that's either there now or soon will be in the Coastal Bend.
Tuesday's council vote opposing adding more seats was unanimous.
"The council at this time does believe the board should stay as is but they also want to continue discussions and keep those lines of communication open with San Patricio officials," interim city manager Keith Selman said.
According to the council resolution, the current makeup of the port commission fairly represents the population of each county.
