Corpus Christi has a new TxDOT district engineer and his name may sound familiar

Walsh plans to get right to work on our traffic congestion issues and improving safety.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

There is a new district engineer for TxDOT of Corpus Christi.

Mike Walsh stepped into his new role, replacing Valente Olivarez who retired from the position last month.

If you recognize that last name, he is the son of former police chief Mike Walsh.

The younger Walsh says he is eager to leave his mark on the city, just like his father.

"I really am honored to be able to come home and serve in my home community following my dad's footsteps. He worked almost 40 years for the city, so just really an honor to get to come back to Corpus and get to do this," Walsh said.

Walsh plans to get right to work on our traffic congestion issues and improving safety.

He is also looking forward to delivering on some big projects coming soon for the region.
