CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Last week, the City of Corpus Christi held its initial meeting to create a mobility plan for North Padre Island to help the area catch up with the times.
Island Strategic Action Committee President Jay Gardner said it has been a roller coaster of projects that have been started and stopped, which has hindered the area's development beyond neighborhood parks.
"While we were able to deal with the lack of infrastructure before, the growing pains that we're about to enjoy, or experience, need to be planned for and need to be thought out very carefully," he said.
City Economic Development Special Project Manager Roger Montelongo said he acknowledges that the area is behind with the times and is trying to get input from as many people as possible.
"We have two great projects going on on the island right now. We have Whitecap Preserve, we also have Lake Padre. And so our plan is kind of helping those two projects," he said.
Residents can visit the online survey to add their thoughts. The survey shows maps and asks questions city infrastructure.
"We're trying to prioritize different projects and that's what's going to be moving forward in the recommendations. And we should be coming back to the public sometime in early 2024 with those draft recommendations," he said.
The survey shows maps and asks questions city infrastructure and residents are encouraged to include any and all thoughts they might have.
