Corpus Christi named best place to start business

Two different Corpus Christi based businesses with one massive common thread both independently owned and hugely successful.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Business is booming in Texas, according to Wallethub.

The latest economic research indicates Texas is at the top of the list when it comes entrepreneurship, and it's the best place to start up a business.

"Been in business for 20 years now,  wow, 20 years yes sir," said Jason Jaimes, owner of Bay Auto Service.

"December 3, 2012, we opened for the first time, and it's been booming and thriving since then," said Anna Lisa Garza, co-owner Julian's BBQ.

Two different Corpus Christi based businesses with one massive common thread both independently owned and hugely successful.

"You know we get much support from the community; it's been, it been an amazing run so far," Garza said.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data, about a fifth of all startups typically don't survive past year one of operation, and nearly half never make it to their fifth anniversary.

Each entrepreneurship has it's key ingredients to success.

"My formula has always just been hard work you know, to be honest with the customers," Jaimes said.

According to Wallethub,  the latest states from the website puts Corpus Christi at number three as one of the best cities for Hispanic entrepreneurs in the nation, right below Pembroke Pines, Fl, and number one Laredo.

"It's amazing, and it doesn't surprise me because we do have a very collaborative community here in the coastal bend area," said Ann Fierova, Director of Del Mar College Small Business Development Center.

The Small Business Development Center helps entrepreneurs get their business up and running.

"We have one organization that houses three resource partners all under one roof. we also have a lift fund over here under our roof that helps businesses with financing who might have trouble getting financing," Fierova said.

There's help for existing businesses looking to do business with the government.

'And the whole reason for our program is to encourage small businesses or all businesses, in general, to do business with our government," Procurement Technical Assistance Robert Mirabal said.

The business of doing business in Corpus Christi or the Coastal Bend is there for any entrepreneur with an idea.
