Corpus Christi sex offender detained on child pornography charge

If convicted, he could face a minimum of 10 years and up to 20 years in federal prison and a possible maximum fine of $250,000.

Corpus Christi (KIII news) — A 64-year-old convicted sex offender from Corpus Christi was detained Thursday on a charge of possession of child pornography.

U.S. Magistrate Judge B. Janice Ellington ordered Thursday that 64-year-old Manuel Diaz be detained pending further criminal proceedings.

According to a criminal complaint filed on April 27, Diaz was allegedly at a pharmacy in July of last year printing photographs of nude children from a flash drive. The complaint alleges that a forensic examination found images of children as young as 12 years old. It also states that Diaz had a prior conviction related to a sex offense.

Law enforcement found more than 750 images and 100 videos in Diaz's possession, according to his charges. If convicted, he could face a minimum of 10 years and up to 20 years in federal prison and a possible maximum fine of $250,000.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations and the Corpus Christi Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force conducted the investigation with the assistance of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
