CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A press conference was held Friday morning for the Coastal Bend Sports Hall of Fame and Awards Show.
Athletes, coaches and sports enthusiasts will celebrate Coastal Bend athletes from across 11 counties and their achievements or local sports contributions.
The inaugural event will take place June 6 at the American Bank Center.
Executive Director of the Corpus Christi Sports Commission Joey Jewell told 3NEWS this is something he wanted to do since arriving to the city.
"We really wanted to do something for the community I knew when I first got here two years ago we knew having community pride through sport so we put together an event," Jewell said.
The event is expected to become an annual tradition highlighting the best in the region's athletics.
