CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — After numerous complaints of drug addicts, shootings and other crimes at La Siesta Motel, the City of Corpus Christi has made the decision to demolish the abandoned building.
Wednesday morning, construction crews began demolishing the motel that was once operational on Leopard Street near the H-E-B. 3NEWS spoke with CCPD Crime Reduction Officer Jorge Fernandez, who said the demolition of the building was for the greater good of the surrounding community.
"Its always been known for criminal activity," he said. "Now that its been abandoned, we've been getting a lot of local drug adducts, transients, people trespassing, prostituting out of there. Just causing a lot of problems for the neighbors, particularly the neighbors that live in the back side."
CCPD said they will continue patrolling the area in hopes of reducing crime there.
