Del Mar College brings college experience to local Boy Scouts

The scouts were given information about what the college has to offer in various fields.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Boy Scout Troops made their way to Del Mar College's Winward campus Today to earn badges and learn about what the college has to offer.

The Boy Scouts were given information about vocational trades like architecture, aviation, welding and academic trades like digital technology, crime prevention and finger printing.

Officials say the event was a great way for kids to experience career opportunities in various fields to get an idea of what their future may look like.

"They have the opportunity to be on that college campus and to see the resources that we have available for educational purposes," Del Mar College professor and Boy Scouts of America Leader Mike Jones said. "So, it's that opportunity for some fantastic growth and it benefits not only our community because it promotes higher education, but it also benefits the scouting program."

Jones said that scouting is a fantastic opportunity because it teaches the youth about character, leadership and personal growth while preparing them to be well-rounded citizens in our community.
