CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A pair of discoveries along South Padre Island Drive has Corpus Christi's Animal Care Services concerned. Several dogs were found abandoned behind two businesses in the same general area.
Animal Care Services investigators said they are looking for whoever may be responsible.
According to investigators, they responded to two calls in the early morning hours Friday -- one behind Bay Area Hospital in the 7100 block of SPID and the other behind the Century 16 movie theater in the 6600 block of SPID.
Investigators received the call at Bay Area Hospital at around 3:30 a.m. Friday. There they found two totes with mother dogs and their puppies inside. Chicken wire was zip tied over the totes, which also contained soiled newspaper, water and old dog foot.
The words "Found on the street, give them a good home, thank!" were written on the side of the totes.
Later at around 7:23 a.m., investigators responded to a call behind the movie theater. There they found six adult dogs in a tote on a wagon that had a tarp covering it. The same message was found written on the side of the tote.
Volunteers with the Animal Care Services said they are bathing the dogs and tending to any medical needs they may have. Investigators said they are committed to finding out who may have dumped the dogs and why, stating that this is an animal cruelty investigation.
