CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Residents who live in Petronila Estate Colonias One and Two will see some much-needed drainage improvements soon thanks to funds from the American Rescue Plan Act.
Precinct 2 Commissioner Joe Gonzalez said that he initially selected five areas he wanted to help with the funds, but could only currently target two, due to the amount of funding received.
Gonzalez said that the funds will be used to build more retention ponds and other resources to help prevent the colonias from being flooded out by heavy rain.
"Then we get waters coming all the way down from Alice to Agua Dulce, to Robstown and ends up in bishop. So hopefully these drainage issues that we're going to do will take away some of that water," said Gonzalez.
The Precinct 2 official stated that every county commissioner received a set amount of funds to go toward improving their presiding areas.
