Driver crashes truck into bedroom of sleeping child

Police said the 26-year-old driver was ticketed for making an unsafe lane change, having an expired license plate, not having a license, and not having proof of insurance. Her truck was impounded.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An early morning crash left one family in Corpus Christi's westside shaken after a speeding truck slammed into their home, just inches from where a young girl was sleeping.

It happened at a home on Ruth Street, near Crosstown. Police said it began as an act of road rage.

According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, a driver was speeding to pass another car and ended up crashing to avoid another accident. Police said a six-year-old girl was sleeping inside the bedroom where the truck ended up.

Before crashing into the home, the driver also hit and knocked down a power pole, leaving them with no electricity.

"She was actually in this bedroom when the car hit. My sister-in-law was in the living room, so it kind of came in right here and it was just chaos after that," said Antonio Zuviri, the child's uncle. "I got here 30 minutes after the incident and when I got here she was still crying and that itself is just horrible. It broke my heart to see her, to see through that incident, and to see that kind of scariness."

Zuviri said his niece's breathing apparatus was also damaged in the crash. Although everyone is safe, he hopes that his young niece will be able to overcome the traumatic experience.

Thankfully, the homeowners do have home insurance, which will cover the damage.
