Eagle Scouts hold flag retirement ceremony at U.S.S Lexington

Following the ceremony over a dozen Eagle Scout members conducted a flag retirement ceremony.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A commemoration and wreath-laying ceremony took place on the U.S.S Lexington on Monday in honor and remembrance of the fallen heroes, whether they served in the armed forces, police, and other first responders.

Following the ceremony over a dozen Eagle Scout members conducted a flag retirement ceremony.

"Respecting our flag means a lot to us. Also, as it's flown every day, it's only appropriate that we retire it once it's no longer supposed to be flown," Eagle Scout Travis Cress said.

The scouts travel to Corpus Christi every year to retire flags and do it in a unique way by stripping the flag in 13 pieces before throwing it into a fire.
