CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Beginning next week, Nueces County voters will have a chance to take care of some unfinished business from March.
Early voting begins for the May 28 runoff election will officially determine the remaining nominees for local races, as voters decide who will be on the ballot for the November 5 general election.
There are 11 early voting locations across Nueces County, each open Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Remember that in Texas, those who voted in the March 5 Republican or Democratic primary must stay with that same party for the runoff.
However, if you are a registered voter who did not participate back in March, then you can vote in either party’s runoff.
Those who meet the eligibility requirements to vote by mail must have their application at the County Clerk’s office at 901 Leopard Street before 5 p.m. Friday.
In Nueces County, most agree that the biggest race will be the one to determine which Republican candidate for District Attorney, Jimmy Granberry or James Sales, will face-off against the Democratic nominee, Terry Shamsie, in November.
Republicans who live in Precinct 2 will also pick their nominee for Constable, as will Democrats in Precinct 1.
Outside of Nueces County, there are Republican contests for County Commissioner to be decided in both San Patricio and Kleberg Counties.
If you are not sure whether you are registered to vote, you check by simply going to the website for the Texas Secretary of State.
