MATHIS, Texas — Mathis police are investigating the death of an elderly man after his body was found Monday behind a vacant building in the 100 block of North Bee Street.
According to police, they were called to an abandoned building just after 4 p.m., and when they arrived, they saw the body of a man in his 80's. The man had suspicious injuries that led them to believe he was murdered.
Police have not released the details about the injuries and if any weapons were used, or how long the man may have been at the location.
According to police, the man's brother was the person who found him after he had been looking in spots he hangs out around Mathis.
"He was last seen this morning at six. My investigators are working on that information right now," chief Scott Rouse said.
Currently, police are not releasing the name of the victim and are still trying to notify most of the family.
Mathis police and the county have called in the Texas Rangers to help them investigate.
