Incumbent Everett Roy and former Dist. 1 city councilman Bill Lerma are headed to a runoff after neither candidate managed to secure more than 51 percent of the vote Tuesday night.

Roy was facing challenges from not only former Dist. 1 city councilman Billy Lerma, pastor Anthony Aquino, sales and marketing manager John Garcia and consultant Eli McKay.

The District 1 councilperson represents North Beach, Downtown, Uptown and North Side Corpus Christi, Calallen and Annaville.

The Dist. 1 candidates had nuanced responses to whether they supported the Inner Harbor Desalination Project when 3NEWS asked them to fill out questionnaires in October, with Lerma saying a definite "No."

Roy and Garcia both said they supported the plan, while Aquino said he supports desalination, just not at that site.

McKay did not provide a "yes" or "no" answer.

Digital director Ana Tamez and digital content producer Mia Valdez contributed to this developing story. 3NEWS will provide updates as they come available.
