The old Sherwin Alumina Plant is currently under contract to be purchased according to a officials from the Port of Corpus Christi.
According to the Caller Times, in a recent meeting with port commissioners, Cheniere Energy announced their consideration of the plant as investment. Company officials say it is part of their project to expand business by constructing a multi-billion dollar plant in Gregory that will produce liquefied natural gas.
Although the purchase is in the works, officials with Sherwin Alumina say it could take years before it is completed due to unfinished demolition work.
