CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Brooks County ISD campus suspended classes Friday after issues with a water line breakage. Lasater Elementary students were transported to the local high school cafeteria where they were picked up by their parents.

The city of Falfurrias is observing a mandatory Boil Water Notice following an emergency main break that occurred Thursday.

The Falfurrias Utilities Department first announced they would be shutting down water service around 8 p.m. Thursday night to complete an emergency water main repair, saying that water service was only expected to be interrupted for three to four hours.

The city later took to social media around 5 a.m. Friday to announce the boil water notice.

Falfurrias residents are asked to share the 'crucial notice' with their community, especially those who may not have received it directly.

It is important to boil water for drinking, cooking, and ice making to ensure destruction of harmful bacteria by bringing water to a rolling boil. Children, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria and are asked to take notice of the announcement.

In lieu of boiling, the city says you can also purchase bottled water or obtain water from another suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

Residents with questions can contact Adrian Montemayor at 361-325-2597.

The city said that emergency line breaks occur routinely within the water system and are addressed without impacting water consumption. They said the water system must engage in 'extraordinary operations' to ensure the repairs are made quickly and efficiently while keeping their employees and the general public safe.
