Red Cross to help two victims of early morning house fire in Corpus Christi

A home on Dody St. suffered significant damage during a house fire early Friday morning.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Emergency crews responded to a house fire early Friday morning on Dody St.

Crews were called just before 7 a.m. to the area or McArdle Rd. and Dody St. for smoke showing in the area. Video from our TowerCam showed heavy smoke coming from the neighborhood.

When crews arrived, they found the garage of a home engulfed in flames, officials said.

“The garage was attached so we had concerns of it extending into the house," Billy Belyeu, Battallion Chief with Corpus Christi Fire Department said. "These houses are kind of close to each other, too, so we had another concern that it was going to extend to one of the neighbors houses so that became our priority.”

As firefighters battled the flames they realized the danger was not extended to other homes so they were able to prioritize where their focus was.

“Once they got water on the fire we were able to beat the fire down enough to realize that it didn't extend to the house and we could focus on the one house,” Belyeu said.

The Red Cross was contacted for two residents that lived at the home, who were unharmed. There is no word on the cause of the fire at this time.

“I got my investigators en route right now to try to peel back the walls to figure out what caused it,” Belyeu said. “None of my firefighters got hurt. It’s nice and cool this morning or decently cool so we’re not really concerned with the heat over exposure.”
