Corpus Christi leaders get first glimpse at proposed S.E.A. Walk renderings

The project would extend the barge doc in front of the American Bank Center and then wrap around other buildings in that area.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — City leaders are looking at giving the SEA District some additional walking space in the form of an expansion project known as the S.E.A. Walk.

The project would extend the barge doc in front of the American Bank Center and then wrap around other buildings in that area. Renderings were showed to city leaders Tuesday to give an idea of what the project would look like.

"Utilizing some square footage that is down on the barge dock and extending the walk path down the barge dock and in front of the American Bank Center," Bill Durrill with the Devary Durrill Foundation said.

Durrill said that the plan will give residents a new way to enjoy the Corpus Christi Bayfront.

"This will tie into a port park that they are building and they will all function and enhance all the venues in this area," he said.

A key question, how will the project be funded?

Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni said the city has different options to support the project and that funding pools for the S.E.A Walk project are separate from the American Bank Center.

"Those are currently funded with today's one-eight centfor the seawall, so similarly for the one-eighth cent for the arena, that's under question and under review, the one-eight for the sea wall will also expire," he said.

Zanoni said that the project will also give back to the city over time.

"It will also compliment the American Bank Center and the facilities behind it that are being revitalized to include the water garden," he said.
