Five-year-old Beeville boy's quick thinking saves a life

When the police got to the house they were astonished at how calm and collected John was.

Beeville (KIII News) — There's a five-year-old boy in Beeville, Texas, who is now being called a hero. John Looney's quick thinking may have saved a life.

The spare keys to Hank Looney's home are hung above heavy wooden tables in his garage. The family friend who takes care of his five-year-old son slipped trying to grab the keys and that's when the tables collapsed on top of him.

"He hit his head, the back of his head, on the front bumper of the car and so he was pinned under the tables and he told John to go get help," Hank said.

They were locked outside, so they didn't have access to a phone to call 911. That's when little John Looney took action.

"So I went to our front porch, screamed for help. A pediatricians office heard me so they told the police," John said.

When the police got to the house they were astonished at how calm and collected John was.

"For a small child, the way he behaved, he was a hero. He didn't act like a small child. He was strong and helped his buddy out," Christopher Haller said.

The man who was injured was taken to the hospital and the family said he is fine now, thanks to John.

The police awarded John with a Junior Officer Badge and now John knows what he wants to be when he grows up.

"A policeman," John said.
