Flour Bluff ISD superintendent resigns

Athletics director Chris Steinbruck was named interim, but Soliz-Garcia will stay on to help in the transition until Jan. 31, 2024.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Update: The district is now reportedly working to address more questions regarding Coach Steinbruck's transition into his role as interim Superintendent.

Flour Bluff Independent School District Superintendent Velma Soliz-Garcia will retire at the beginning of next year, according to a news release on the district's Facebook page.

The Flour Bluff ISD board of trustees accepted her resignation during a specially called meeting Thursday.

Athletics director and head football coach Chris Steinbruck has been named interim superintendent, effective immediately, FBISD communications director Kristen Bily.

"I am so excited to work with each of you to move this district forward, you know this is a total team effort," Steinbruck told school board members following their vote.

Chris Steinbruck has been with the district for twenty-two years.

Steinbruck earned a master's of science in education and is certified to be a school superintendent, according to his LinkedIn page.

When called for an interview, Bily referred 3NEWS to a news release and said the district wouldn't be issuing further comment Thursday.

The district's release states that Soliz-Garcia, who has been in charge at FBISD since January 2021, "notified the FBISD Board of Trustees of her plan to retire and resign."

The district also released a scripted Q&A video featuring Steinbruck in which he talked about what he is looking forward to in his new role.

"The opportunity to get to know more amazing people that make this place so special.  Building those relationships learning and gaining everyone's feedback on how I could help make things better is extremely exciting."
