CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Last month we reported on a special class for juniors and seniors at Flour Bluff High School.
It's the district's first ever sports officiating class and it gives students an opportunity to get certified.
FBISD is one of just 15 districts across Texas to offer this type of program.
Friday morning, students were given an on-court clinic from former NBA official Gary Zielinski himself.
He's officiated more than 1000 regular season games, as well as 18 playoff games with the NBA.
3NEWS was able to speak with him and ask him about the biggest thing he wants students to learn.
"So many people have misconceptions about officiating, I just want to show them what the reality is. Main thing I want to say, 'people say they scream and yell at officials, it's like well here's why they scream I'm gonna tell you why," Zielinski said.
The former NBA official also told us that students learn a lot during the clinics.
He said it's an eye-opening experience that helps them learn the rules they think they already know.
