CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A jury has sentenced a man to 99 years in prison for stabbing a young father outside a Corpus Christi nightclub in 2016.
A jury sentenced Francisco Delgado to 99 years in prison Thursday. Delgado was found guilty of stabbing 23-year-old Alex Martinez outside of the Entourage Night Club in Corpus Christi on June of 2016.
The trial went on for three days before jurors came up with a guilty verdict.
Five months before the fatal stabbing of Martinez, Delgado was arrested and charged with stabbing another victim. According to prosecutors, they hope Thursday's punishment sends a message.
"The message was that if you kill somebody, you're going to be held accountable for it. Also, if you do it in a brutal manner, you're going to get the maximum punishment allowed," Assistant District Attorney Joe-Mike Pena said.
"Alex was a good person. He was a loving person, and he didn't deserve anything that was brought upon him," said Adriana Vela, the mother of Alex's child.
Delgado will serve 99 years in prison for the killing of Martinez and an additional five years for the attack before that murder.
