Galvan Ballroom receives official Texas Historical Marker

A dedication ceremony was held Friday morning to commemorate the Galvan Ballroom receiving an official Texas Historical Marker.

It has been a gathering place for weddings, quinceaneras and other events for decades; and on Friday the Galvan Ballroom was officially declared a Texas Historical Landmark.

The unveiling of the historical marker was a long time coming.

Anita Eisenhower with the Nueces County Historical Society said it's about preserving our hometown history.

The building was constructed in 1949 at a cost of $150,000 by the patriarch of the family, Rafael Galvan.

"The Tommy Dorsey band played and it was an unbelievable orchestra," owner Bobby Galvan Sr. said. "It was packed."

68 years later, the iconic building is still making memories.

"A lot of people think that the ballroom is maybe done," Galvan said. "It's not. We have dances almost, almost every weekend night. At least once a week."

Plans are to keep the building as original as possible for future generations to enjoy.
