CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Temperatures in the Coastal Bend might be a bit high for the season, but that has not stopped gas prices from falling once again this month.
According to AAA data, the national average for a gallon of gas has gone down five cents to $3.55. The agency said downward trends at the pump have saved drivers an estimated $5 every time they have fueled up since the year’s peak a month ago.
Those savings may be even greater in the state of Texas, where the average price of gas is an estimated $3.04 as of Monday. That average has fallen about 35 cents in the past month. In Corpus Christi, gas prices fell by an average of 33 cents a gallon.
Texans have seen a steady drop in gas prices over the last month.
Andrew Gross, a spokesperson with AAA, said that gas prices are falling nationally by about a penny a day, but noted the pace of that drop was relatively slow. He stated that global tensions are a contributing factor in current gas price trends.
“The oil market is watching to see if the war between Israel and Hamas widens, so the price is stuck at a rather elevated price in the mid-$80s per barrel. This, in turn, is slowing the decline in gas prices.”
If oil prices remain steady or fall, drivers can expect further price drops at the pump in the weeks ahead.
