CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — US Senate candidate and Texas Senator Roland Gutierrez and Texas House candidate Solomon Ortiz kicked off the first day of early voting Tuesday with a "Get Out the Vote" rally.
The event brought together local and area Democratic activists in an effort to drum up excitement this election cycle.
Gutierrez said he's running for better gun laws and reproductive freedoms for women. He added the time is now to change it all because the system, he says, is "all broken."
"We've got to make sure that we're giving people a chance and a leg up," Gutierrez said. "Not a hand out, nobody wants a hand out. We just want a chance at living this American dream."
Gutierrez headed back to san Antonio following the rally where he said he was going to cast his vote.
