H-E-B introduces new way for customers to pay

Customers will soon be able to use Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay at Texas' popular grocery store chain.

TEXAS, USA — Texas' most popular grocery store is advancing its technology when it comes to payment options.

On Monday, H-E-B announced it will soon be introducing a tap-to-pay feature at all of its stores across Texas.

The new service gives customers the option to purchase items with Apple, Samsung and Google Pay, joining other chains like Target and Kroger.

Soon, H-E-B shoppers can use this technology at all lanes -including self-checkout- and at any of the company's restaurants, such as Main Streat Food Hall & Bar in Austin or True Texas BBQ.

Tap-to-pay will also be offered at all in-store pharmacies.

"This has been one of the most requested services we have received from our customers and Partners," H-E-B marketing and payments group vice president Ashwin Nathan said in a release. "And we are excited to now make this popular technology available at all our H-E-B locations."

The chain said these changes should take place in the coming weeks, with the first installation at its San Antonio locations.

From there, the payment options will be introduced at H-E-B's throughout the state and in Houston's Mi Tienda spots.

When did H-E-B launch its digital payment pilot program?

Back in August, H-E-B introduced a tap-to-pay pilot program at one of its Central Market stores in Dallas, with the hopes of growing it in the near future.

The program ultimately received positive feedback, and the chain expanded its digital pay options to all Central Market and Joe V's Smart Shop locations.

That same month, the Favor Delivery app introduced a separate app, called H-E-B Now, to provide customers a new way to make orders of 15 items or less. Deliveries are completed in under 45 minutes, according to the service.
