High school seniors gather to help Rockport in recovery from Hurricane Harvey

The group spent the morning cleaning up the Connie Hagar Cottage Sanctuary that was left badly damaged from 2017's storm.

ROCKPORT, Texas — More than a dozen high school girls from the Houston and San Antonio areas were in Rockport, Texas, Wednesday to help residents there in their recovery efforts since Hurricane Harvey.

The group spent the morning cleaning up the Connie Hagar Cottage Sanctuary that was left badly damaged from 2017's storm.

"I think supporting local things like this is really important," student Demetria Flowers said. "Our wildlife parks are a really important part, especially for birds that come through Texas, and after Hurricane Harvey places like this need a lot of help."

The group will be in town for their senior project learning how to be conservationists.
