From the courts now, a Nueces County jury spent the day deliberating the punishment for a man found guilty late last week on human trafficking charges. Jovan Miles, 28, was found guilty of bringing a then 15-year-old girl to Corpus Christi from Houston and soliciting her out as a 19-year-old on a local website.
The victim saying, in just the course of a few months, she had over 300 clients, and was rewarded with clothes and jewelry. Monday, the jury decided to sentence miles to 40 years in prison.
"As the attorney general's office we commend the Nueces County District Attorney's office for taking this crime incredible seriously. And for moving forward with this prosecution," says Kirsta Melton with the office of the Texas Attorney General.
Miles will have to serve 20 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
