How to plan ahead for Hurricane Beryl

Whether you plan on waiting out the storm or heading out of town, here are some tips on what you can do to prepare.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We all understand the importance of being prepared for storms to hit our Coastal Bend --and how it can save your life and property.

First Edition's Madeline Salinas joined us live from Ellis Beach with what to consider as Hurricane Beryl eyes the Gulf.

Padre Island National Seashore Park officials want residents and visitors to know that even if the storm does not make its way directly to South Texas, anyone coming to the park this weekend should pack up and be ready to leave at a moment's notice.

Camping is NOT recommended this weekend, as tropical storm winds are currently expected to arrive in the area around Saturday.

Have a way to listen to updated weather forecasts, carry extra food, water, and fuel, and be prepared to pack up and leave the park at a moment's notice.

The CDC also has some things they'd like for you to keep in mind when it comes to storm prep. If you have important medication, if possible, be sure you have an emergency medical supply and an ice pack or cooler to chill any medications that might need it.

In the event that a storm brings heavy rain and wind and cuts off power or water supply, you'll want some sort of alternative power source such as battery powered flashlights or lamps.

Remember:

• Alternate power source

• Emergency medical supplies

• Secure any important paperwork (medical records or passports)

• Have a full tank of gas in car
