Ingleside ISD Superintendent Troy Mircovich is retiring, leaving behind family legacy in the district

Troy Mircovich and his father Gilbert Mircovich have served a combined 50 years as superintendent for the school district.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Ingleside ISD's superintendent Troy Mircovich is retiring. But what many people may not know is superintendency runs in his family.
3News went to the district to find out how he began his career in education. It's not the typical office setting you would expect for a superintendent, proving no matter where you begin your career, you have to start somewhere.

"I came home one day, and my father told me congratulations on the new job. And I asked him, what job did I apply for? He said, "You're going to be a school bus driver for Ingleside ISD."

What began as a two-year gig for Troy Mircovich transformed into a seven-year role as a principal.

"I never even thought I was going to be in education. I was gonna go for marine biology. Work for Texas Parks & Wildlife," said Mircovich.

"As I went into college, he said, you know if you like it so much why don't you teach it?"

Troy then served 19 years as superintendent behind his father, Gilbert who previously served as superintendent for 31 years.

"My father and I together would have served 50 years as superintendent for the school district."

Troy is proof that where you start your career can be a steppingstone.

"It's been a blessing," continued Mircovich.

"My old saying when I was a principal at the primary school was, 'If you believe it, you can achieve it.' And I think all of our kids can do that here."
