Islanders women return from Southland Conference tournament victory

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Fresh off their victory in the Southland Conference Tournament --the Islanders Women's Basketball team returned home early Friday morning.

The ladies pulled in to Momentum Village at 2:45 a.m.

3News was there when their bus arrived.

Crowds cheered as the champions made their way down from the passenger coach and grabbed their bags.

They were also carrying a special piece of hardware they earned on the court in Louisiana.

Paige Allen spoke with us about what the record achievement means for the Islanders. 

"It's a huge moment. The first time this has ever been done," said the senior SLC All-Defensive Team player ('21-'22.) 

"A lot of the girls didn't even know that this is the first time we won the championship, and going to the NCAA, so it was a big moment for everyone and the people here it is very special."

The women will find out when and where they will play coming up on Selection Sunday --this Sunday at 7 p.m.
