JASPER, Texas — The Jasper County Sheriff's Office has identified four persons of interest in connection with the after-prom party shooting early Sunday morning.
During a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, officials said arrest warrants will be issued soon.
"We intend to prosecute anyone responsible to the fullest extent of the law," Jasper County District Attorney Anne Pickle said.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, deputies responded to reports of a disturbance at an after-prom party with gunfire on County Road 263, just north of Jasper.
"What should have been a special evening turned into a tragic event that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons," Pickle said.
According to Jasper County District Attorney Anne Pickle said there are now a total of 11 victims who were injured in the shooting. Previously, nine people were identified as victims.
"As of today, we have eight that are home and are recovery and three that have not been discharged and are at the hospital," Jasper County Crime Victim's Coordinator LaRonnia Gray said.
Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said two additional victims went to the hospital after the shooting.
JCSO spokesperson Karli Cherry confirmed all injuries were from gunshot wounds except one.
The victims ages ranges from 15 to 19 and there are still three people in the hospital, Pickle said.
Officials said the victims' information will not be released in order "to preserve (the) integrity of the investigation."
Newman confirmed a vehicle used in the shooting was found abandoned. The exact location of the abandoned vehicle was not stated.
"We found the car that was pulled over and it’s being processed," said Sheriff Newman.
Officials said more information is expected to be release Wednesday.
"We will bring those responsible to justice and want to remind the public violence will not be tolerated," Sheriff Newman said. "Our kids deserve to be safe and enjoy the best days of their school year."
Counseling and other resources are available for attendees of the party through the Attorney General’s Crime Victims Compensation Program. Contact information is below.
