CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Bethany Bernal's trial date has been postponed for Dec. 9.
Jury selection was set to begin on Monday.
Bernal's son Knox Longoria was a 4-year-old boy who was killed in 2021 and Ezekiel Ramirez, Bernal's boyfriend at the time, was convicted of first-degree murder in January.
Corpus Christi Police Department officers were called to Driscoll Children's Hospital in June 2021, where Knox was being treated for severe injuries. He later died from those injuries.
Ramirez was accused of causing the boy's death by hitting him either with his hand or a blunt object
He was sentenced to 50 years in prison, and court records show he filed an appeal of that decision in February.
"You're going to be in prison for a very long time and on the anniversaries of his death I want you to think of that little boy who will never grow old," 347th District Court Judge Missy Medary told Ramirez before handing down the sentence.
