CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A fire that started this Wednesday on Cleveland Street and MLK Drive was put out by the Corpus Christi Fire Department, said CCFD Fire Chief Brandon Wade.
The alert of the fire came in at 4:45 a.m. CCFD arrived at the scene near I-37 and Port Ave. and worked for about two hours to put out the fire.
Wade said crews arrived at the scene to find an abandoned building was burning from end to end. The large size of the fire prevented firefighters from going inside, so it had to be contained from the outside.
The roof of the structure collapsed. An assessment of the building will be done to determine if it is cleared.
There have been no reports of injuries, but crews have not yet been able to search through the building because of the amount of damage it sustained.
The fire was fully put out around 6:45 a.m.
This is a developing story.
